Gyeryongsan National Park, the second location in Korea to be designated as a national park, in 1968, is a stone’s throw from the City of Daejeon and provides numerous trails for avid hikers, along with beautiful paths along mountain streams perfect for a leisurely stroll in the mountains. The 10 valleys and 16 peaks, centered around the highest peak of 847m, Cheonhwangbong, form a ridge in the shape of a dragon with a rooster’s crown, hence the name Gyeryong (鷄龍 Rooster Dragon). Due to its proximity to Daejeon, and within easy reach of Seoul, Gyeryong Mountain National Park is a popular destination for day trips.
