A variety of health and medical services are available to protect and improve the health of babies and infants.

Support for Medical Fee of infants

Medical expenses for premature infants and congenital anomalies (under the median standard income of 180%), congenital metabolic abnormalities (6 kinds, born in the year), infant (under 18 years old) and early detection of newborn hearing loss (standard median income 72% or less) will be supported if they apply to the responsible Community Health Center in accordance with the applicant’s address.

Support for health checkup for infants and children

All infants (health insurance members) under 6 years of age are provided with 7 health checkups for infants and 3 times for oral examinations in accordance with the period of examination by the nearby medical institutions and clinics designated as the examination institutions.

National Immunization Service for Children

All children under the age of 12 will be fully supported with the vaccination fee for national immunization vaccine. National immunizations are available at public health centers and medical institutions.

  • Vaccines eligible for private medical institutions under 12 years old (16)
    • BCG (intradermal vaccine), hepatitis B, DTaP (diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis), IPV (polio), DTaP-IPV (diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis/polio), MMR (measles/ mumps/ rubella), chicken pox, Japanese encephalitis (inactivated vaccine), Japanese encephalitis (live vaccine), Td (tetanus/diphtheria), TdaP (tetanus/ diphtheria/ pertussis), Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type B), Streptococcus pneumoniae, hepatitis A, HPV (human papillomavirus infection), influenza
  • Precautions Before Receiving Vaccinations
    • Parents who know the condition of the baby’s health best must take him/ her to the community center or hospital.
    • Make sure that the baby doesn’t have fever.
    • Take the baby's immunization records when you visit the doctor or the community health center Be sure to keep a mother and child handbook or child handbook.
    • Have the baby bathed the day before the vaccination and put the baby in clean clothes.
    • Have the baby vaccinated in the morning. In case of any emergency, visit a doctor again.
  • Precautions after Receiving Vaccinations
    • Observe the child while staying at the clinic for 20-30min.
    • Observe the child closely for three hours after the vaccination.
    • Avoid hard exercise on the day and the day after.
    • Avoid taking a bath on the day of the vaccination.
    • Keep the vaccinated area clean.
    • Observe the child at least 3 days, and if the child develops a fever or experiences convulsions, go to the doctor immediately.
    • Be sure to lay babies on their backs to sleep.
  • Kinds and Period of Vaccination
    • BCG : It is given within four weeks after birth
    • Hepatitis B : If pregnant woman is positive (HBsAg), (HBIG) and Hepatitis B is vaccinated together within 12 hours of birth. The Hepatitis B is again given after 1 month and 6 months
    • DTaP(diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough) : Can be vaccinated with a combined vaccine
    • Td / Tdap : Additional Vaccination with Td or Tdap at 11 or 12 is recommended
    • Polio : The third vaccination is inoculated at 6 months of age but can be inoculated for up to 18 months and can be inoculated with DTaP-IPV (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polypo) mixed vaccine

      • At 2, 4, 6th month, 4-6 years old, DTaP-IPV combination vaccine is possible instead of DTaP vaccine and IPV vaccine. In this case, the basic 3 times should use the vaccine of same manufacturer in principle, while DTap vaccine at 15~18 months can be chosen regardless of manufacturer.
    • Type b Haemophilus Influenza(Hib) : Vaccination is given to every infant 2 months~below 5 years after birth. For child over 5 years-old vaccination is given only in case the risk of Type b Haemophilus Influenza infection is high (sickle cell anemia, after splenectomy, low immunity due to anticancer treatments, leukemia, HIV infection, Humoral Immunodeficiency)
    • Measles : If measles is prevalent, MMR vaccination is available at 6~11 months, but in this case, re-vaccination of MMR is needed after 12 months of birth.
    • Hepatitis A : The first vaccination is given 12 months after the birth. An additional shot is given 6~18 months after. (Vaccination interval may vary per manufacturer.)
    • Japanese Encephalitis(killed vaccine) : After the first inoculation, the second inoculation was performed at intervals of 7 to 30 days, and after the second inoculation 12 months later, the third inoculation.
    • Influenza(killed vaccine) : In case of 6~59 month infant, vaccination is given every year: at first, vaccination is given 2 times with an interval of 1 month, and then once every year. (However, if only 1 shot is given at the first year of Influenza vaccination, vaccination is given two times with an interval of 1 month)
    • lnfluenza(live vaccine) : Available after 24months, and at the first year of vaccination, the shot is given two times with an interval of 1 month, and then given once every year(However, if vaccination is given only once at the 1st year of Influenza vaccination, it is given two times with an interval of 1 month the next year
    • pneumococcus (protein conjugate vaccine) : Interchangeability of vaccine between PCV10 protein conjugate vaccine and PCV13 is not recommended.
    • pneumococcus (Pneumococcal disease) : Over 2-year-old child with high risk of pneumococcus infection. Considering health condition, and after full consultation with doctor, vaccination is given.
      • ※ High risk groups of pneumococcus
      • Infant with low immune function : HIV infection, chronic renal failure and nephritic syndrome, diseases requiring immune suppressants or radiation therapy(malignant tumor, leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease] or solid organ transplant, congenital immunodeficiency diseases
      • Infants with Functional or anatomical asplenia : Sickle Cell Anemia or hemoglobin, asplenia or splenic dysfunction
      • Immune function is normal but diseases such as : chronic heart disease, chronic lung disease, diabetes, cerebrospinal fluid leak, cochlear implants
    • Japanese Encephalitis(live vaccine) : The second vaccination is administered 12 months after the first vaccination.
