Childcare and Education for Infants

Before entering compulsory education, children may attend a kindergarten or other child care facilities, such as a nursery.

Nursery, or “Children House”
  • The nursery is a day care facility for children between 0 and 5, which is designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in accordance with the Child Care Act.
  • The operating hours are basically from 07:30 to 16:00 on weekdays. For infants who need additional care, extended hour services are available depending on the facility.
  • The monthly tuition varies depending on the age of infants and the type of facilities.
Kindergarten
  • Kindergartens are an educational facility that accepts children from the age of three to five.
  • The operating hours are usually from 09:00 to 14:00, but it may be extended for working couples.
  • The monthly tuition varies depending on whether it is a national·public facility or a private facility.

Childcare Subsidy, Infant Education Support, and Child Home Care Allowance

Childcare Subsidy, Infant Education Support
  • Childcare subsidy and infant education fund differentiated according toa child’s age will be offered for babies between 0 and 5 who uses a nursery (children’s house), as well as children between 3 and 5 who go to a kindergarten, regardless of income.
Childcare Subsidy and Education Support for Children with Disabilities
  • Childcare cost will be supported in full for preschool children under 12 with disabilities (100% of the standard government subsidy).
  • Education cost will be entirely supported for children with disabilities aged 3–5 who go to a kindergarten that provides special education.
Home Care Subsidy
  • Child care allowances are supported for children under 86 months who are raised at home without using daycare centers or kindergartens.
    • 200,000 won per month under 12 months old, 150,000 won per month under 12 to 24 months, 100,000 won per month under 24 to 36 months old, and 100,000 won per month under 36 to 86 months
